Those were the good old days
While I sit here watching my 5 year old nephew playing on the computer, my mind wanders back to a time when, as long as the sun was shining, or better yet, there was no rain falling, all kids from age 3-14 were outside.
It was a time that if you missed a day outside, something was very wrong. It was a time when there was no such thing as someone “entertaining” you. It was also a time when imagination was plentiful.
I remember getting a skipping rope every Easter, and so excited to get to school to start playing. We had many different skipping games back then, my personal favorite was double Dutch. You really had to be coordinated to play that one. I can’t remember how long ago it has been since I have seen a school parking lot full of skipping ropes.
That was also a time when parents didn’t have to worry about kids being over weight and unhealthy, participation was an everyday event. Running jumping and playing, it was a step in the right direction!
So to wrap this up, somethings are better and somethings are not… maybe we can try to get that imagination working again, and the rest will be easy. |
